Greenwich Library's Collection of Databases for Kids

  • Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia--Includes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. Full text for each record may be easily accessed by double clicking on the topic from the display. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas. This database is updated annually.

  • Kids Search Kids Search is a user-friendly interface for children to search EBSCOhost databases.
  • Mango Learn a new language with this interactive database that provides step by step lesson plans for twenty-two different languages. This database features ESL lessons speakers of fifteen different languages. A text translator is also provided.
  • MUZZY Online Muzzy makes language learning fun for children through animated video, games and exercises. Language learning for English, French, German and Spanish.
  • Masterfile Premier (coverage 1975-current) Provides full text for nearly 1,950 general periodicals covering a broad range of disciplines including general reference, business, education, health, general science, multi-cultural issues and much more. In addition to the full text, this database provides indexing and abstracts for nearly 2,600 titles.
  • NoveList Plus This database allows readers to use a favorite author or title as a template to locate other authors and titles of interest. Besides locating books to read, users can learn more about books and authors through Author Read-alikes, Feature Articles, Book Discussion Guides, and BookTalks.
  • Primary Search (coverage 1984-current for abstracts and 1989-current for full-text) Provides full text for more than 50 popular, magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.

This database contains full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, etc. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, health and medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science and society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.
  • Searchasaurus EBSCO's Searchasaurus interface provides an exciting and easy way for primary school students to enhance and develop basic search methodologies. Students will be riveted by the colorful, animated interface, complete with erupting volcanoes and a dinosaur guide, as they gather information on a wide range of topics. Searchasaurus offers Lexile limiters (reading level), making it easy for students to read and research only appropriately challenging materials.
