Affordable Care Act: Connecticut Information

Access Health CT provides in-person help via Navigators--trusted, community-based organizations handling CT's outreach efforts. They can put you in touch with an "Assister," to help you understand all the available options and assist in the enrollment process. The Navigator organization for Fairfield County is the Southwestern Area Health Education Center (AHEC), located in Trumbull, CT:

The Greenwich Library opened its Health Information Center in October 2003. The center provides access to resources and information on a variety of health related topics.
The Health Information Center houses more than 100 reference books and two dedicated computer workstations with printers enable patrons to search for health information on the Internet.
The library owns more that 5000 circulating books on health related topics and has print subscriptions to 40 health and wellness periodicals. Community health events and services are advertised on the center's bulletin board.

Health Information Center

Free programs on health and wellness topics are offered periodically to the public. Many of these programs are cosponsored with Greenwich Hospital as well as town agencies such as the Greenwich Health Department and the Greenwich Senior Center.

Know the Ten Signs: Early Detection Matters

As many as 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and that figure is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.

This program will provide attendees with an understanding of the difference between age-related memory loss and Alzheimer's and what to do if they or someone they know has signs of the disease. Attendees will view video footage of real people who are living with the early stages of dementia and their families addressing fears and myths associated with Alzheimer's disease. Following the video segment there will be a guided discussion led by Connecticut Alzheimer's Association Tania Paparazzo, MSW, Southwestern Regional Director.

This is a cosponsored event between Connecticut Alzheimer's Association and Greenwich Library. No registration is required and all who are interested are welcome to attend this complimentary workshop.

Treating ADD Without Medication

The Staff and Friends of Cos Cob Library present a discussion by Dr. Tom Woodman, BCIA Board Certified Neurofeedback on how to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) without medication. A lack of focus is something that many parents observe in their children. Whether formally labeled ADD/ADHD or not, it can result in kids falling behind academically and/or being reprimanded, thereby causing a lack of self esteem in the child. Dr. Woodman will discuss how using neurofeedback as an alternative to medication can help alter this condition permanently without the worry of medicinal side effects. Light refreshments will be available.
