Teen Book Review:<\/strong> Guest reviewer Ella returns with her thoughts on Nina LaCour’s We Are Okay.<\/a>\u00a0“The trouble with denial is that when the truth comes, you aren’t ready.”<\/p>\n

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour is an intimate, honest story about the importance of friendship and having someone to lean on and the lies we tell ourselves. The main character, Marin, had friends & a grandfather who loved her in the comfort of her hometown, San Francisco. But then mysterious events lead her to college in cold New York City. There, she’s on her own, unable to contact her friends and staying in her dorm room by herself for the holiday break. Then Marin’s best friend from California, Mabel, comes to visit, leading to\u00a0 Marin finally being confronted with her own problems and the reasons why she left her hometown in the first place.<\/p>\n

We Are Okay<\/a> is a novel that not only teenagers but anyone of any age can relate to. Anyone who has ever felt alone or afraid to face something bad will be able to connect with Marin’s struggle. And readers can sympathize with Mabel, who’s doing her best trying to figure out what happened to Marlin. This novel will tap into all different emotions, from confusion to happiness and to sadness. I recommend We Are Okay<\/a> to any reader who may feel alone at times or just wants to read a book with a message worth hearing.<\/p>\n
